Death Mars Anchorage Gay Pride

Saturday's Anchorage Pride Parade came to an abrupt end when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car carrying the event's grand marshal.

James Crump, 50, was caught underneath the car carrying Doug Frank, the grand marshal. The driver of the vehicle was 70-year-old Edith Bailey; it appears the car kept moving after hitting Crump, so police are investigating what happened and whether the car had a sudden mechanical problem.

The parade was canceled after the tragic accident, and attendees were directed to a park where festivities continued, but in a much more subdued manner.

"Everybody was happy and videotaping, like I said, but then we heard a crunch and somebody yell, 'Help!'" attendee Paula James told KTUU.
